History - Odum Baptist Church

The Odum Baptist Church was organized in the spring of 1903 in the old Odum Schoolhouse. Rev. J.M. Defore was the first pastor. One acre of land was purchased for $30.00 from Vicy Odum O'Quinn. The deed for this property was written September 6, 1906. Melton Boyd and Henry A. McGually aided in the construction of the building, with the help of Eli Thompson and his two sons, Dowsie and Richard.

Three of the first deacons were Dr. J.T. Colvin, W.H. Tyson and W.J. O'Quinn. Sunday school rooms were added in 1919. There were 22 homes in Odum at that time.

Through the years there have been many contributions, both large and small, by numerous persons which have greatly aided in the Lord's Ministry through the church.
