Odum Homecoming History
The present-day annual Odum Homecoming event had its beginning with the
Bicentennial Celebration in December 1976. The homecoming theme had its birth at the
Labor Day Festival in 1977. This event was started as a part of the Governor's Project
competition; the Odum community took third place.
In 1978, the homecoming was celebrated on the Fourth of July. This celebration combined
with a beautification project and other events enabled the community to capture first
place in the Governor's Project competition. In 1979, the community decided to move the
homecoming celebration to the first weekend in October because the weather was more
favorable.
